LSURF 2016 will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 2:30-4:30pm at the Gutman Conference Center located on the ground floor of the Monroe C. Gutman Library at the corner of Appian Way and Brattle Street. This timing gives students time to find a host lab and apply for summer research fellowships, which typically have deadlines in January, February, or March.

Curious about what it means to “do research?” Come to this workshop at OCS to hear from Dr. Margaret Lynch, Associate Director of Science Education, and Dr. Cammi Valdez, Assistant Director of the Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (URAF), to learn about how to find a lab, important questions to ask, different ways to fit this in your schedule, and how to find funding.

This symposium will focus on important new research on the changing nature of the world’s oceans and the questions that arise from that change. The program will begin with a study of new data about the formation of oceans and the origins of early life. Speakers will then examine how oceans have transformed over climate epochs as water temperatures have fluctuated and ice sheets have formed and melted. Leading scientists and policymakers will also consider how human behavior is affecting the seas, and
